"8" - Theater-Stream mit G. Clooney, B. Pitt, K. Bacon. J.L. Curtis (...) | Am vergangenen Samstag (03. März 2012) wurde im Wilshire Ebell Theatre in Los Angeles "8" aufgeführt. Das von Oscar-Gewinner Dustin Lance Black (Drehbuch zu "Milk") geschriebene Theaterstück handelt vom Kampf für die gleichen Hochzeits-Rechte. Nachgestellt wird die Gerichtsverhandlung im Fall "Perry v. Schwarzenegger", welche im Zuge von Prop 8 durch die American Foundation for Equal Rights angestrebt worden ist.
Das Stück wird bereits (hochkarätig besetzt) am Broadway aufgeführt, die am vergangenen Samstag aufgeführte Lesung toppt das allerdings. Inszeniert wurde selbige von Rob Reiner. Das Ensemble umfasst (u.a.) George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Jamie Lee Curtis, Kevin Bacon, Martin Sheen, John C. Reilly, Jane Lynch, Chris Colfer ("Glee"), Jesse Tyler Ferguson ("Modern Family").
Die Aufführung wurde live per youtube gestreamt. Glücklicherweise kann man sie sich allerdings unter diesem Link auch weiterhin angucken.
Nicht nur wegen des wichtigen Themas lohnt sich das Angucken der gut neunzigminütigen Aufführung.

Sie wurde gestern nachmittag tot in ihrem Hotelzimmer in Beverly Hills aufgefunden. Nach erfolglosen Reanimationsbemühungen herbeigerufener Sanitäter und Notärzte konnte nur noch der Tod festgestellt werden. Wegen der Todesursache wurden Ermittlungen aufgenommen.
Die Sängerin war wegen der Grammyverleihung nach Los Angeles gekommen.
Whitney Houston war eine der erfolgreichsten Sängerinnen der Pop-Geschichte. Ihre Glanzzeit waren die Achtziger und beginnenden Neunziger Jahre, als sie mit Hits wie "How Will I Know", "Greatest Love of All" oder "I Will Always Love You" weltweit Plattenrekorde brach.
Neben ihrer Arbeit als Musikerin wurden auch Ausflüge in die Filmbranche zu Erfolgen. "The Bodyguard" mit Kevin Costner spielte weltweit über 400 Mio Dollar ein, die ebenfalls von ihr beigesteuerten Songs der Filmmusik gehören bis heute zu den erfolgreichsten Soundtracks der Musikgeschichte.
Doch als Mitte der Neunziger Jahre ihr Stern zu verblassen begann, häuften sich auch private Probleme. Ihre Ehe mit Sänger Bobby Brown geriet zum Desaster. Nach Episoden ehelicher Gewalt und einem jahrelangen Rosenkrieg wurde die Scheidung 2007 rechtskräftig.
Auch Drogen- und Alkoholprobleme und damit verbundene Entzugskuren bestimmten zunehmend die Berichterstattung über die Sängerin.
Trotz ihrer privaten Schicksalsschläge unternahm Whitney Houston immer wieder vielbeachtete Comebackversuche, konnte an ihre ursprünglichen Erfolge aber nie mehr anschliessen.
Whitney Houston starb am 11. Februar 2012 in Los Angeles. Sie wurde 48 Jahre alt.

Verleihung der Ehren-Oscars 2012 | Die Verleihung der hierzulande als Ehren-Oscars bekannten Governor Awards fand bereits vor zwei Wochen in Los Angeles statt.
Beim "Academy’s 3rd Annual Governors Awards Dinner" wurden drei Persönlichkeiten für ihr Lebenswerk bzw. für besondere Verdienste ausgzeichnet.
Ein Honorary Award 2012 ging an den Schauspieler James Earl Jones, der vor allem für seine Darstellung von Darth Vader in der "Star Wars"-Reihe Weltruhm erlangte.
Einen weiteren Preis durfte der Make-Up-Künstler Dick Smith in Empfang nehmen. Für besonderen humanitären Einsatz wurde Oprah Winfrey mit dem Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award geehrt.
